Three Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Students Recommended to Serve on A&M System Board of Regents The Student Government Association at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has nominated three students for the position of non-voting member on the A&M System Board of Regents. The student representative will be selected by Gov. Rick Perry early next year from a list of nominees provided by the system’s 10 universities. In May, the Texas Legislature passed a new provision to the Education Code providing for the appointment of a student member to the board of regents of each of the state’s public university systems. Texas A&M System Chancellor Robert McTeer will select at least two students from the applications he receives and forward them to the governor’s office no later than Thursday, Dec. 1. Prior to submission to the Chancellor, the student’s name and institution will be removed from the application. Gov. Perry is expected to make his selection by late January or early February. The nominated A&M-Corpus Christi students are: Lori Balerio, a junior majoring in management and marketing; Ed Gorecki, a graduate student majoring in public administration; and Megan Thompson, a junior majoring in psychology with a minor in biology. The A&M System Board of Regents is a voluntary group appointed by the governor to oversee system-wide decisions. A student regent has the same powers and duties as the members of the board except that they do not vote and that their presence or absence is not counted in determining if a quorum exists for a meeting. |
