New memoir answers dispels rumors surrounding trial of Yolanda Saldivar

Corpus Christi District Attorney Carlos Valdez will discuss his soon-to-be-released book “Justice for Selena: The State vs. Yolanda Saldivar” with political science students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in the Center for Instruction, Room 113.

Valdez and Assistant District Attorney Mark Skurka will speak about the fatal shooting of the Tejano superstar and the resulting murder trial of her former friend and employee Yolanda Saldivar with students in Dr. Bob Bezdek’s political science class. The informal discussion will precede the book signing which will take place at the University Bookstore from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Valdez, a graduate of A&M-Corpus Christi and a former protégé of Bezdek, has been a prosecutor for more than 25 years. He has prosecuted several highly-publicized cases in addition to the Saldivar murder trial. Prior to being elected district attorney, Valdez served as Nueces County Attorney.
