More than 200 children and their families will participate in a National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) sponsored “Family Focus Day” on Saturday, July 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
During the morning activities, participants will play games in the Moody Sustainers Field House swimming pool, take part in team-building activities with their families and challenge family members to races through an inflatable obstacle course. In the afternoon, participants and their parents will attend a drama about the dangers of alcohol in the University Center Ballroom presented by Real Life Communications.
The NYSP combines sports instruction with educational programs for underprivileged children between the ages of 10 and 16. The five-week program allows students to participate in activities such as windsurfing, kayaking and horseback riding.
“The program helps build self-esteem and shows participants the importance of giving back to the community,” said Raul Munoz, activity director. “Family Focus Day allows parents to see what their children are learning and also to participate in this important program.”
