Corpus Christi Resident to Announce Scholarship Gift to Support Islander Athletes

Scholarship shows community support for the athletics program

Corpus Christi resident Anne C. Parr will present Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi with a $100,000 gift to benefit the Tarpon Foundation Athletics Scholarship program on Thursday, July 14 at 2 p.m. in the University Center, Oso Room 221.

Parr, active in sports all her life, was the first girl to play Pony League baseball at Oso Pony League and competed on the men’s golf team at Carroll High School from 1977-1978 before becoming a founding member of the women’s golf team her senior year. Her experiences and love of sports encouraged her decision to endow a scholarship for Islander Athletics.

The Tarpon Foundation is a non-profit program that supports scholarships for male and female student-athletes. More than 175 student-athletes annually benefit from the Tarpon Foundation and the contributions they receive from donors. Funds raised support the needs of 14 sports programs at A&M-Corpus Christi.
