“Get the Job” Career Connections Seminar and Fashion Show at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
9th annual seminar prepares job seekers for successful interviews
Students preparing to enter the job world will find out the do’s and don’ts for job interviewing at the 9th Annual Cheryl Hein’s “Get the Job” Career Connections Seminar and Fashion Show on Tuesday, February 15 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom. The seminar is free, and the public is invited to attend.
The seminar organized by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s office of Career Services and the Women’s Center for Education and Service, will host the event that prepares students for job interviews.
Students will exhibit women’s and men’s clothing considered appropriate attire for job interviews. The outfits will be provided by J.C. Penney. Following the fashion show, a panel of career placement specialists will give interviewing tips and advice on etiquette and demeanor. Panelists include Diana Schultz of Driscoll Children's Hospital, Morris Ellington of Enterprise Car Rental, and Dr. Pam Stokes, College of Business professor.
Tina Alvarado, interim director for Career Services, said that many employers list two common mistakes that interviewees make – dressing inappropriately and not adequately researching the company.
“I always stress to anyone interviewing for a job to do your homework on the company and be prepared,” said Alvarado. “Many times the first question an employer will ask is `What have you heard about us?`and that’s a hard question to answer if your not prepared.”
Sponsors for the “Get the Job” seminar and fashion show are H-E-B, YWCA, Enterprises Car Rental, and Driscoll Children's Hospital.
Career Services is dedicated to assisting A&M-Corpus Christi students and alumni in exploring career opportunities and development to empower them to achieve their career goals. Services provided include resume writing, mock interviewing, job search, and how to negotiate an offer.
