Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Concert Band to Perform Arrangements of New, Classic Orchestral Pieces The A&M-Corpus Christi Concert Band under the direction of Dr. John Wojcik will perform in concert on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom. The concert is free and open to the public. Featured in the concert will be “Prelude For An Occasion” by Edward Gregson; “Mars,” the first movement from the well known orchestral suite “The Planets” by Gustav Holst; “Molly On The Shore” by Percy Grainger, featuring Grainger’s arrangements of the two Cork reels “Molly On The Shore” and “Temple Hill;” Symphonic Dance No. 3 “Fiesta” by Clifton Williams; “O Magnum Mysterium” by Morten Lauridsen, arranged by H. Robert Reynolds; and “Tempered Steel” by Charles Rochester Young. “Although there’s no common theme to the music we’ll be playing, the five pieces are all challenging to the musicians who have never before performed them in public,” said Wojcik. “It’s also music that many people in the audience may not have heard before and we want to challenge them to enjoy the music.” This is the first of four formal concerts the band will perform this year. The 60-member orchestra, which was formed four years ago, will make its debut in the new Performing Arts Center on Thursday, April 7.
