Outstanding A&M-CC Alumni, Faculty and Students to be Honored, Homecoming King and Queen Crowned Saturday

Accomplished Texas A&M University alumni, students, and faculty will be honored during the Islander Parents/Alumni Awards Brunch on Saturday, Feb. 5 from 10:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom.

The National Alumni Association will present the Outstanding Faculty Award to Dr. Robb Jackson, a professor of English and writing instructor in the College of Arts and Humanities. This year’s Alumni Award winners include: Ruben Moya- Young Alumni Award; O.B. Garcia- Outstanding Alumni Award; and Dr. Robert Cox- Distinguished Alumni Award. In addition, students Ed Gorecki, Sarah Elizabeth Penn and Jamie Lashua will be recognized for their accomplishments.

Saturday afternoon, the Homecoming festivities will reach their peak as the Islander women and men play back-to-back at the American Bank Center Arena.

During halftime of the women’s game which starts at 3 p.m., the Alumni Award winners, members of the Athletic Hall of Fame and Homecoming Court; freshmen, sophomore and junior court; will be recognized. The 2005 Homecoming Queen and King will be crowned during halftime of the men’s game which gets underway at 7 p.m.

Following the women’s game, alumni, students, faculty and A&M-Corpus Christi basketball fans will be able to mingle and enjoy food and entertainment during the first Islander Block Party from 4:30-7 p.m. in front of the American Bank Center. The Block Party, which is free and open to the public, will feature live music from Pineapple Protein, The Rubber Bands and Three for Five. The Lady Islanders Basketball team will sign autographs and there will also be a rock climbing wall, children’s face painting, and children’s games.
