A&M-Corpus Christi Students Use Leadership Skills to Renovate North Side Community Center

Students from the Leadership and Managerial Effectiveness class at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host a grand opening celebration for the North Side Manor Apartments’ Community Center located at 1401 North Alameda St. on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Dr. Karen Middleton, professor of management from the College of Business, provides her students with an opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to help others in the community. The students working with the Housing and Community Services renovated the community center at the North Side Manor apartments.

The students and volunteers remodeled the center’s learning room, expanded the library, and added eight new computers with educational software. The meeting room, kitchen and storage room were also updated.

To accomplish the renovation the students were required to set specific goals, develop communication plans, recruit and manage volunteers, develop a budget, and create a fundraising plan.
