An opening reception for the photographic exhibit “This is My Right” by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi student John Woelke will be held on Thursday, Oct. 21 from 6-8 p.m. in the Mary and Jeff Bell Library on the University campus. The exhibition is sponsored by the University’s “Island Waves” newspaper. Between Aug. 29 and Sept. 2 of this year, Woelke recorded the extremes of the National Republican Convention in New York City, from the street demonstrations by peace protestors to the climactic acceptance speech by President and Republican nominee George W. Bush. From the approximately 2,500 pictures he shot, Woelke selected 22 photographs that he felt painted the complete picture both inside and outside the convention. The exhibit’s title is a reference to one photograph, the raised fist of a young demonstrator with those defiant words scrawled across her forearm. The exhibit will be on display through Saturday, Nov. 6 and is free and open to the public. |
