More than 150 costumed elementary students from the Early Childhood Development Center will celebrate Halloween early on Friday, Oct. 29 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. with a party that will include trick-or-treating and scary stories from the Dean of the University’s College of Education. The party sponsored by the University Bookstore will begin in the University Center’s Lone Star Ballroom, 142 where Dr. Dee Hopkins will tell seasonal stories to the children who will be dressed as their favorite literary characters. Hopkins, who has taught courses in storytelling, grew up in rural Indiana where it is considered an art form. “I don’t plan on making anyone’s hair stand on end but I do enjoy telling stories that will make everybody’s toes tingle,” said Hopkins. “Most of us like to be scared a little bit, especially this time of year.” Following the story-telling, the children will be given “goodie bags” before going to various locations throughout the building where employees will pass out treats. |
