The film was directed, edited and produced by A&M-Corpus Christi Alumnus Duane Graves and Justin Meeks. “Rio Peligroso” is described as a mockumentary/musical/narrative comedy short is set in a tiny, dilapidated border town in south Texas and follows the life of Julio "The Pepper" Chavez, a self-proclaimed legend who takes too much pride in being a "coyote," which is someone who helps usher illegal Mexican immigrants across the Rio Grande and into the United States. Graves and Meeks graduated in 1999 from A&M-Corpus Christi with a B.A. in Communications - TV/Film track. This is their second collaboration; their first was an experimental/horror film titled “Headcheese.” In 2001, Graves received international recognition with the documentary “Up Syndrome,” which is a portrait of his boyhood friend Rene Moreno who was born with Down Syndrome. “Rio Peligroso” is for mature audiences.
