Architect Victor Legorreta to Speak at Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi Summer Commencement on Saturday, Aug. 7 at
Memorial Coliseum
Internationally recognized architect Victor Legorreta,
a partner and lead designer with the Mexico-based architectural firm
that designed
the addition to the Art Museum of South Texas, will be the keynote speaker
at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Summer 2004 Commencement
ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 4:30 p.m. in the Memorial Coliseum. This
summer’s ceremony will see more than 430 graduates cross the stage
from the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Business, the
College of Education, and the College of Science and Technology.
After graduating
from the Universidad Ibero Americana in Mexico City in 1990, Legorreta joined
the firm founded by his father Ricardo Legorreta
as project manager. Since becoming a partner in 1991, he has been highly
involved with all phases of every project and is dedicated to transforming
characteristics of indigenous Mexican architecture into buildings of
practical use and beauty.
Projects designed by Legorreta + Legorreta include the San Antonio Public
Library; the Chula Vista Library in Calif.; the Schwab Residential Center
at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.; the College of Santa Fe
Visual Arts Center in Santa Fe, N. M.; the UCLA International Student
Center in Los Angeles; the Children’s Museum and the Tech Museum
of Innovation in San Jose, Calif.; the Mexican Museum in San Francisco;
and the Monterrey Library and the Marco Museum in Monterrey, Mexico.
The graduation
ceremony will be broadcast live on KXPX Channel 14. It will also be aired simultaneously
on Grande Channel 14, Charter Channel
14, CMA Channel 51 and Cable One Channel 10. |
