Family Focus Day set for tomorrow at A&M-Corpus Christi
More than 220 children ages 10-16 and their family members
will participate in Family Focus Day tomorrow at Texas A&M University
Corpus-Christi from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m.
The event, sponsored by the National Youth Sport Program, will take place
in the University Field House, swimming pool and University Center. Activities
include scuba diving lessons and martial arts demonstrations for the
participants and various activities for family members.
Motivational guest speakers will conduct programs at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The NYSP combines sports instruction with educational programs for underprivileged
children 10-16. A grant from the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services underwrites the program. The University partners
by providing facilities, personnel, materials and services.
Family Focus Day is part of a 25-day summer program with nine days remaining.
Upcoming activities include windsurfing, kayaking, and horseback riding.
Raul Munoz, NYSP activity director, said that when participants
turn 16, they are eligible for a $2,000 A&M-Corpus Christi scholarship,
which is now in its fifth year. |
