in Blue Jazz Ensemble to Perform at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Department of Music will host
a concert by Dimensions in Blue, the jazz ensemble from the United States
Air Force Band of the West, on Thursday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the
University Center Lone Star Ballroom. The performance is free of charge
and open
to the public.
This group performs a wide variety of music, ranging from the classics
of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Woody Herman, to the more contemporary
sounds of Rob McConnell, Bob Mintzer and Frank Mantooth. The band can
also recreate
the look and sound of the 1940s Glenn Miller Army Air Corps
Jazz Band. Dimensions in Blue is a faithful reproduction of the
World War II era when big jazz bands were all the rage.
This ensemble performs in high schools, colleges and media-sponsored
tours throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana. They have
been featured performers at the Texas Jazz Festival, the Texas Bandmasters
Association Convention, the International Association of Jazz Educators
Convention, the Corpus Christi Jazz Festival, the Galveston Jazz Festival,
andSan Antonio’s “Fiesta In Blue” activities. |
