Through Sunday, Nov. 22 – Three candidates seeking Master of Arts degrees from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold a combined exhibition of their work from Friday, Nov. 7, through Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Islander Art Gallery, 4024 Weber Road in the Hamlin Center. David Fuentes (printmaking), Johnny Bilanno (photography), and Carole Mauch (ceramics) will each present a body of work of varying media for their graduate exhibitions. Through Wednesday, Dec. 31 – The “Heart Gallery of South Texas” featuring photo displays of 62 local foster children seeking permanent adoptive families will be on display through Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center, 2021 Agnes St. The exhibition, which coincides with National Adoption Month, is a collaborative project between the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Community Outreach Department. Through Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 – The exhibition “Field of Color: Seven Contemporary Artists in Texas” will be on display through Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at the Art Museum of South Texas, 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd. The Art Museum of South Texas is affiliated with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Saturday, Nov. 22 – The Omega Phi Alpha RSO Service Sorority at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold a rough-cut screening of the documentary “Invisible Children” Saturday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m. in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom. The film highlights three young Americans who traveled to Uganda in spring 2003 in search of a story. What they found was a tragedy where children are the weapons and the victims. The film exposes the effects of the 20-year war on children who live in fear of abduction by rebel soldiers and are forced to fight as a part of a violent army. Monday, Nov. 24 – Recreational Sports at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host its annual “Turkey Trot Run and Walk” Monday, Nov. 24, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Hammerhead parking lot. The entry fee is one canned good to benefit the Corpus Christi Food Bank. This event is free and open to the public. Register at the Moody Sustainers Field House or Glasscock Fitness Center through Monday, Nov. 24, or on site at 4:45 p.m. the day of the event. Monday, Nov. 24 - The Coastal Bend Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will meet Monday, Nov. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Carlos Truan Natural Resources Building, Room 1003, on the Texas A&M University campus. The business meeting will be followed by a screening of the surf movie “Contours,” a long board feature shot mostly in Indonesia. Pizza, popcorn and beverages will be provided. Monday, Nov. 24 – The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islander women’s basketball team will take on the University of North Texas Eagles Monday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. at the American Bank Center arena.  Flour Bluff Pop Warner Junior Pee Wee Cheer will perform at half time. Various prizes and T-shirts will be given away. Students get in free with a valid SandDollar$ ID and can pick up tickets in advance at the SandDollar$ office. General admission, faculty and staff tickets start at $6. Monday, Nov. 24 - The Department of Music at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will present the Flute Ensemble in concert Monday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.  For more information, call 361.825.5523.

Tuesday, Nov. 25 – The Student Nurses Association at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host a “Blue Jeans for Babies Pre-maturity Educational Awareness” presentation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom. Merchandise will be for sale and donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to the March of Dimes’ “Blue Jeans for Babies” campaign to ensure that all babies are born healthy. Monday, Dec. 1 The Department of Music at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will present the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi/Del Mar Student Composition Concert Monday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Wednesday, Dec. 3 – Frank Gomez, strategic alliances and public affairs executive with the Educational Testing Service, will speak on "Corpus Christi in the Eye of the Perfect Storm: Education, Immigration and the Workforce" during the World Affairs Council of South Texas luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the Congressman Solomon Ortiz International Center. Tickets are $25 for members and active duty military in uniform, $32.50 for non-members, and $18 for students. Reservations must be prepaid. Wednesday, Dec. 3 – The University Cinema at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will close its “Seven Movie Milestone” film series with the screening of “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” (2000, 103 min.) Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Bay Hall, Room 104. Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, and starring George Clooney, John Turturro, John Goodman and Holly Hunter, this funny story of prison escapees in the South parallels Homer’s Odyssey and illustrates the imaginative use of computer-generated imagery.  The screening is free and open to the public. Wednesday, Dec. 3, and Thursday, Dec. 4 – The Art Museum of South Texas, 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd., will host two holiday luncheons catered by the Corpus Christi Town Club Wednesday, Dec. 3, and Thursday, Dec. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The luncheons begin with a social hour and Museum viewing; gift drawings, seasonal music, and a casual style show add to the festive atmosphere. The Art Museum of South Texas is affiliated with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Friday, Dec. 5 – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold its third annual “Islander Lights” celebration Friday, Dec. 5, at the Performing Arts Center Plaza. The holiday festivities kick off at 5 p.m. with a 4-mile Islander fun run and 1 ½-mile walk around the hike and bike trail followed by Santa’s visit to the Island at 6 p.m. The Wishes and Dreams Toy Drive and Student Picnic will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the University Services Center Plaza. At 7:30 p.m., the switch will be thrown to illuminate the campus along Ocean Boulevard in Islander blue, green and white. The evening will include music, food, games and activities. Wednesday, Dec. 10 – Singing cowboy poet Michael Martin Murphey will once again celebrate the holiday season at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi when he brings his highly-acclaimed “Cowboy Christmas” concert back to the Performing Arts Center Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 to $30 for adults and $7 for children and students.
