Leadership Profile of Jeff E. Bell, Jr.
Establishing a Legacy of Philanthropy

Jeff E. Bell, Jr.Jeff Bell has been a champion of the Island University for many years, and the Mary and Jeff Bell Library is just one testament to the immeasurable impact Mr. Bell and his late wife have had on students at A&M-Corpus Christi.

As President of the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Foundation from 2002-2004, Jeff Bell was on the front lines of leadership, overseeing the Foundation’s money management strategies and bringing together a large group of influential individuals with the goal of enhancing educational opportunities for the University’s students.

A banker by profession and an individual of unquestioned integrity and vision, Mr. Bell has always been an effective and dedicated steward of other people’s money. When it came to managing his own resources, his abundant generosity to the University is exemplary.

And this year, Jeff Bell stepped forward once again, donating to the University a lead gift which will benefit the endowment of the Robert and Gloria Furgason Performing Arts Series. This donation was easy to make, in Mr. Bell’s words, ‘because of the remarkable things Dr. Furgason has done for this community.’

“I believe strongly in the work of the Foundation, and in supporting that work, “says Mr. Bell, “because these gifts truly keep on giving. The legacy grows from one generation to the next—the size, scope and the influence of the Foundation regenerates.”

Jeff Bell’s name continues to be synonymous with philanthropy in the Coastal Bend. If you have enjoyed the Texas State Aquarium, the U.S.S. Lexington, the Art Museum of South Texas or the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, you have been touched by the generosity of Jeff Bell. The fact has not gone unrecognized—in 2001 Mr. Bell was named Philanthropist of the Year by the organization Philanthropy in Action.

Jeff Bell is convinced of the value of giving to the community through his support of organizations and programs that promote the culture and beauty of our multi-faceted community. When you love the community that has been such a positive factor in your life, you want to give something back to that community.

While Mr. Bell’s philanthropic activities are diversified, he and his late wife always saw something special in strengthening educational opportunities in our community, mainly through their work with local libraries and at A&M-Corpus Christi.

The University is very special to Jeff Bell. His contributions are aimed at seeing A&M-Corpus Christi grow and become a major center of education for South Texas. He is a tremendous asset in the University’s quest.

A&M-Corpus Christi’s mission is to prepare students for productive careers in their chosen fields of study and provide them with the intellectual, cultural and ethical foundations necessary to contribute effectively and positively to a changing global community. Jeff Bell is in tune with that vision; his actions demonstrate it.

One of the greatest challenges the University faces is keeping pace with the extraordinary progress and momentum we are all witnessing. The purpose of the Foundation is to promote the growth, quality and effectiveness of the University. A strong foundation contributes to a strong university. And our strength can only grow as more, caring individuals join forces with the University and the Foundation, following the examples of leaders such as Jeff Bell.
