Athletes Win in Class, Sports
Softball - KatieWith more than 200 dedicated student-athletes participating in a variety of NCAA sports, the A&M-Corpus Christi Athletic Department continues to field the most competitive teams possible while helping student-athletes achieve their full academic and athletic potential.

“Goal” is a word often used by the Islander Athletics Department as each year brings new accomplishments. In spring 2003, the Islander softball team won the Big South Conference championship and became the first team in Islander history to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The baseball team’s victory over the defending national champion Texas Longhorns catapulted the Islanders onto the national stage where they garnered votes in the Collegiate Baseball poll. Also, during the spring 2003 semester, track and field standout Jesse Bibbs became the first athlete to represent the University in an NCAA regional competition.Basketball player

During fall 2003, a record-breaking season of 15 wins by the men’s basketball team was highlighted by the Islanders’ victory over the Texas A&M Aggies. Another milestone was the beginning of construction of a multipurpose arena by the City of Corpus Christi that will accommodate 8,000 to 10,000 fans. The new facility, scheduled to be completed later this year, will give the University leverage in its quest to become a host site for regional NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.
