PHYSICAL growth OF CAMPUS

University Center
The new 98,000 square-foot University Center opened in the Spring of 1999. Unifying the Center is the Commons, a five-story circular atrium. At the bottom floor of the Commons are seven retail service areas surrounding a 250-seat dining area. The food court serves meals for a variety of tastes. Also on the first floor are the University Bookstore, American Bank, 78412 Post Office, Campus Copies and The Channels TV Lounge.

At 6,400 square feet, the Lone Star Ballroom is the other dominant feature of the University Center's first floor. This multipurpose event space, combined with 12 other meeting rooms on all three floors, provides more than 16,000 square feet of event space. All of these rooms have telephone, computer and video connection capability.

On the second floor balcony overlooking the Commons, the Perks Coffee Shop and Breakers game room combine coffee house and recreation activities. The Student Activities Office, Student Organization Area, University Center offices, more meeting/event space and a study lounge occupy the remainder of this level.

The third floor includes several meeting rooms, The Dock TV Lounge, the Career Services Office, Student Affairs Office, the Student Programs Office, Women's Center and more study space.

Addition of Science and Technology Building
Construction is under way on the new, 64,000 square-foot Science and Technology building. "We will be holding class in this new space in the Fall semester of 2001," says Dr. Tim Coppinger, user/coordinator of the new building and Engineering Technology Coordinator at A&M-Corpus Christi.

The $13.7 million building will house six classrooms, 13 laboratories and 33 offices. The building will also provide laboratory space for engineering technology, computer science, physical life science and occupational therapy.

"To keep up with our current student growth and that projected for the future, we recently opened the University Center, a modern 98,000 square-foot multi-use facility that serves as the center for student activities on this campus."

Dr. Robert R. Furgason, President
