WAVE OF THE FUTURE
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
As a real tribute to the community and the people behind
this project, the "Wave of the Future" capital campaign ultimately
raised $22 million--surpassing the initial campaign goal of $15
million. Simply put, the objectives of the campaign were to increase
student scholarship endowments, faculty development new technology
and technology training, outreach and partnerships, and to enhance
student life.

As President
Robert R. Furgason announced the $22 million total of the "Wave of the Future" capital campiagn,
committee chairs took center stage during the "Cresting the Wave" Banquet,
Feb. 22,2000, in the University Center Lone Star Ballroom. Pictured

Betty Bell-Vextor, Mary Campbell, Celika Storm, John Chapman,

OBJECTIVES WILL BE
MET THANKS TO GIFTS BY THE FOLLOWING:
Ed Harte
Edward H. Harte, philanthropist and former publisher of
the Corpus Christi-Caller Times, was awarded an honorary doctoral
degree during Spring commencement ceremonies, May 7, 1999, at Memorial
Coliseum in Corpus Christi. In 1998, Ed and Janet Harte gave gifts
of nearly $20 million to a variety of charities and organizations
throughout South Texas and the United States, including $3.5 million
for the Performing Arts Center (since named the Edward H. Harte
Performing Arts Center).
Sam Frech
Samuel Frech, a local financial consultant and longtime supporter of
the arts in the Coastal Bend, gave a $1 million gift to Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi toward the Sam Frech Concert Hall located
in the planned Edward H. Harte Performing Arts Center.
In memory of Rogelio "Roger" Benavides
After Rogelio "Roger" Benavides lost his life in an industrial accident,
his wife, Linda, and their two young sons, David and Paul, established
the Rogelio "Roger" Benavides Memorial Chair in engineering technology.
The $1 million endowed professorial chair will emphasize the research
and teaching of industrial safety.
Mary and Jeff Bell
Mary and Jeff Bell made a gift of $1 million to the Mary and Jeff Bell
Library to increase its automation capabilities.
