Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Summer Camps

The following is a list of summer camps being offered in Summer 2018 by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and/or its affiliates. This list is updated regularly. For further information about each camp, please click on the camp name.

Young Authors Camp

April 18, 2018 through June 29, 2018

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Department of English invites you to the 29th annual Young Authors Camp. The camps are designed to provide student authors with opportunities to expand their interest in writing and experience writing as a fun and creative opportunity for self-expression and communication with others. This 29th annual Young Authors' Camp will include a variety of writing activities such as nature walks and visits with poets and artists. Each attendee will receive the camp material, t-shirt and camp anthology. Register early! Admission to each camp is limited to 25 and will be based on the order in which registrations are received. Scholarships are available. Campers are welcome to register for one or both camps in their age group.

Very Important Kids Camp

June 04, 2018 through June 30, 2018

The Art Museum of South Texas, an affiliate of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, will host the Very Important Kids Camp focusing on visual arts, performing arts and reading for children age 6-12. Camp takes place Monday through Friday, and includes a lunch provided by the City of Corpus Christi. The camp runs in two 2-week-long sessions and students can attend one or both. Session topics include art and reading. At the end of each session, students put on a special exhibition and performance that parents and friends are invited to attend. A cookie and punch reception will be held for our young artists and performers and their families. Each camp session costs $50, plus $20 for additional siblings. A limited number of scholarships are available.

Islanders Recreational Sports Camp

June 04, 2018 through August 10, 2018

The Recreational Sports Department at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites you to the annual Islander Recreational Camp (IRC)! IRC takes place every summer at the Dugan Wellness Center for children ages 5-12. Camp runs Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. During camp children are able to let their active sides shine through an all-day non-sport specific recreational camp. Organized games keep the campers active as they learn teamwork, sportsmanship and respect for their peers. Games include dodgeball, kickball, knock out and other IRC staple games, such as Squirrel Ball, Medic and Satellite. Other activities include swimming, climbing the rock wall and arts and crafts. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi students serve as camp counselors. The camp runs for nine weeks and children can register to attend camp for one or more of these weeks. Each week costs $100 per child and caps at 60 campers per week, so register early!

The Fine Art of Summer Camp

June 04, 2018 through August 10, 2018

The Art Museum of South Texas, an affiliate of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, will host ten different sessions of visual and performing arts camps for children ages K5-12 throughout the summer. Each session will highlight a different pop culture theme and technique, such as cartooning/drawing, mine “craft”/collage, Jurassic art/printmaking and more. This format allows children to explore worlds they know and love while also bringing those worlds to life through artistic expression. The camp day runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with pre and after-care available for an additional charge.

All but one session will be held at the Art Museum of South Texas, located at 1902 North Shoreline Blvd. Session seven will be held at the Garcia Arts & Education Center, located at 2021 Agnes St. Session dates are listed below:

  • Session 1: Monday, June 4, through Friday, June 8
  • Session 2: Monday, June 11, through Friday, June 15
  • Session 3: Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 22
  • Session 4: Monday, June 25, through Friday, June 29
  • Session 5: Monday, July 9, through Friday, July 13
  • Session 6: Monday, July 16, through Friday, July 20
  • Session 7: Monday, July 23, through Friday, August 3 (at Garcia Center)
  • Session 8: Monday, July 23, through Friday, July 27
  • Session 9: Monday, July 30, through Friday, August 3
  • Session 10: Monday, August 6, through Friday, August 10

Registration for camps opens on Thursday, March 1. Scholarships are available.

Summer Boys Basketball Camps

June 07, 2018 through June 28, 2018

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will offer a series of Summer Boys Basketball Camps from Monday, June 4, through Thursday, June 28. Camps include:

  • Day Camp: Runs Monday, June 4, through Thursday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to noon. Open to ages 7-17. Registration fee is $100.
  • Shooting Camp: Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Open to ages 7-17. Registration fee is $50.
  • Day Camp II: Runs Monday, June 18, through Thursday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to noon. Open to ages 7-17. Registration fee is $100.
  • Bitty Ball Camp: Runs Monday, June 25, through Thursday, June 28, from 9-11 a.m. Open to ages 5-7. Registration fee is $50.

Coastal Bend String Camp

June 11, 2018 through June 16, 2018

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Coastal Bend String Camp offers elementary, middle and high school students the opportunity to come to the Island University for a week of music and fun from Monday, June 11, through Saturday, June 16. The camp is open to all students with at least two years of experience on a string instrument. Students will experience music-making with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi string faculty and outstanding area music artists and educators. Classes offered are: string orchestra, sectionals, chamber music, mariachi, world music and rhythm. Students will also enjoy activities each day, including recreational events and recitals. Students will be divided by age group. The registration deadline is June 1.

Camp on the Coast

June 17, 2018 through June 30, 2018

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Summer Theatre Workshop is a two-week residential camp designed for high school students seeking a highly intensive and creative theatre experience. Participants will rehearse and perform in a one-act play directed by one of five highly successful theatre educators. Students interested in performance will study acting, voice and movement in morning classes taught by TAMU-CC Theatre faculty. Returning campers will take a three-hour master class in acting and movement. Technical theatre students will attend classes in design, participate in the creation of each production’s sets, lighting and costumes and serve as crew for the shows. 100 campers are accepted each summer (50 female and 50 male). Capacity is usually reached before the May 17 application deadline.

Girls Code Camps

June 18, 2018 through June 29, 2018

The College of Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites middle school girls, grades 6-8, to explore the basics of computer programming during two Girls Code Camps. Campers will use cool and easy to use graphical programs like Scratch to create their own custom mobile apps and program the behaviors of mBots.

The two camps are:

  • Women in Technology Unmanned Ground Vehicles: Runs Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 22.
  • Women in Technology Mobile App Development: Runs Monday, June 25, through Friday, June 29.
Each camp costs $25 and applications are due by Monday, April 30.

Underwater Robotics Camp

June 24, 2018 through June 30, 2018
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Department of Engineering invites high school Juniors and Seniors to attend the Underwater Robotics Summer Institute. This Institute is an overnight week-long summer educational program for talented high school students (ages 16-18) who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Students who participate in this program will spend one week on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi building knowledge in underwater robotics, interacting with other talented teens and learning from experienced University professors. The program includes hands-on activities, guest speakers and first-hand experience in our engineering laboratories. Scholarships are available for participants based on merit or financial need.

STEM-Tronics Camp

July 16, 2018 through July 20, 2018
The College of Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites local middle school students to participate in the STEM-Tronics camp, which runs from Monday, July 16, through Friday, July 20. The camp gives students the opportunity to learn and use state-of-the-art technologies that can be combined to create different electrical engineering projects related to automation, mechatronics and robotics. The camp costs $25 and the application deadline is Monday, April 30.

Islander Band Camp

July 16, 2018 through July 20, 2018

The Texas A&M University Corpus Christi Islander Band Camps offer middle school, junior high and high school students the opportunity to come to the Island University for a week of music and fun from Monday, July 16, through Friday, July 20. Students can recharge their musical batteries as they get ready for the school year while participating in classes including group lessons, sectionals, full ensemble rehearsals, and music theory and history. Students will also enjoy activities each day, including games and recitals. All campers must have at least one year of experience with their instrument. Camp fees are $300 for commuters and $500 for resident campers. Scholarships are available. Resident camper applications must be received by Friday, June 29, and commuter camper applications must be received by Tuesday, July 9. All registrations requires a $50 deposit. 

UAS Summer Institute

July 23, 2018 through July 27, 2018
The College of Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will offer the UAS Summer Institute from Monday, July 23, through Friday, July 27. The camp is open to high school students and runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The UAS Summer Institute will connect South Texas students to UAS technology and give them hands on experience working with UAS equipment and software. The camp costs $25 and applications are due by Saturday, June 30.
