Friday, May 4 – The Department of Art at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold an opening reception for the summer fundraiser exhibition “Anonymous” on Friday, May 4, from 6-8 p.m. at the Islander Art Gallery, 4024 Weber Road in the Hamlin Center. This thematic exhibition revolves around the concept of anonymity. Participating artists have worked with alternate media, technique, or subject matter allowing viewers to assess the work directly, without name recognition. This thematic exhibition revolves around the concept of anonymity. Participating artists have worked with alternate media, technique, or subject matter allowing viewers to assess the work directly, without name recognition. Wall labels will list the artist as anonymous and a list of participating artists will be posted in the gallery. Only when a work is purchased will the identification of the artist be revealed. Saturday, May 5 – The Early Childhood Development Center Library at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will sponsor a Cinco de Mayo Reading Celebration and Book Fair on Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 5129 Blanche Moore Drive. Customers will be treated to Folklorico and Zumba dance presentations, author visits, children’s craft activities, and special appearances by the Tooth Fairy and Biscuit, the dog. Guest authors include Jim Moloney (Corpus Christi-A History), Dan and Michelle Parker (Surfing Corpus Christi and Port Aransas), and popular young adult author-Diana Lopez (Confetti Girl), who will promote her soon to be released book “Choke.” Enter to win drawings for prizes. Tuesday, May 8, through Tuesday, June 5 – The Office of Community Outreach at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host a LSAT Test Preparation class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Tuesday, May 8, through Tuesday, June 5, from 6-9:20 p.m. Tuition is $799 which includes 30 hours of course instruction to help students master the skills needed to ace the LSAT exam. Saturday, May 12 – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold two spring commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 12, at the American Bank Center.
• The first ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. for the College of Education and the College of Liberal Arts.
• The second ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. for the College of Business, the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and the College of Science and Engineering.

Tuesday, May 15 – The “Power on for Texas Film, Interactive, and Tourism Conference” will be held on Tuesday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Center at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Hear from experts in film, music, interactive media, video gaming, and cruise lines as they discuss the economic impact these important industries have on the future of our state. Keynote speakers will include Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp and Gov. Rick Perry. The conference is hosted by Rep. Todd Hunter, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Del Mar College, the University of Houston-Victoria, and the Texas Travel Industry Association. Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack will be provided. Saturday, May 19 –Volunteers are needed for an oyster reef restoration event that the Department of Life Sciences at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies will host on Saturday, May 19, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Goose Island State Park. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes (old tennis shoes are perfect), clothes that can get wet/dirty and, if they have them, bring gardening gloves. Beginning Saturday, May 26 – The Office of Community Outreach at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will offer the “Introduction to Kayaking” class on the last Saturday of every month, beginning on May 26. This class includes instruction on equipment, safety, trip planning, self rescues, assisted rescues, and more. This all day class begins with a morning session in the University pool, and an afternoon guided paddle trip in the Lighthouse Lakes Paddling Trail. Top quality equipment is furnished for the class.
