Students may choose
to either major (39 semester hours) or minor (24 semester
hours) in history. The history area also offers three
degree programs for students who wish to prepare to teach
at the elementary or secondary levels.
The program is designed
to expose all history majors to a diverse array of
courses, while at the same time allowing the student the
flexibility to take additional courses in his or her
field of interest. It offers integrated perspectives on
political, social, economic, cultural, and military
factors that have shaped the city, the state, the nation,
the region, and the world. The curriculum also helps
students prepare for professional examinations such as
the ExCET and the GRE.
Students who continue
their education beyond the bachelor's degree -- who go on
to attend graduate school or law school, for example --
benefit from the rigors of the history program. With a
low student-teacher ratio in upper-division classes,
students will enjoy easy access to faculty and research
resources. Prior history majors at Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi have gone on to complete
additional degrees at such prestigious institutions as
Yale, the University of Texas, Johns Hopkins, and Rice.
