Graduate Advising

Dr.David Blankel, Associate Professor of History, is coordinator of the History M.A. program. Incoming students should see Dr. Blanke for their graduate advising. To do so, please contact him via e-mail at David.Blanke@tamucc.edu. During posted office hours or by appointment, you are also invited to see him in his office, FC 266, or to call him at (361) 825-2373.

After a student has been officially admitted to the program, three members of the history faculty will be appointed by the Assistant Dean, in consultation with the History MA coordinator, to serve as the student's Graduate Committee. The chair of the Graduate Committee will act as the student's adviser, will design a degree plan with the student and seek its approval by the full Graduate Committee, and will arrange and chair appropriate exit examinations prior to conferral of the degree.

The degree plan, signed by the student and graduate adviser, will become official when approved by the Dean. The degree plan will reflect the student's designated major field of interest. Students who wish to change their major field must secure a revised degree plan. Any courses to remove deficiencies in undergraduate academic preparation will be included in the degree plan and must be taken in addition to the minimum number of graduate hours for the degree.
