Mission

 

The M.A. in English program offers all candidates the opportunity to grow intellectually and creatively through the advanced study of language and literature. This program is committed to excellence, timeliness in keeping abreast of current developments in the field and an integrated conception of English as a field of study.
 

English Grad StudentsThe degree is designed to
+ further students' knowledge and understanding of writing, composition theory, linguistics, literature, literary theory, and cultural diversity,
+ develop accomplished teachers of English at the secondary and community college levels,
+ prepare skilled professional/technical writers and writing trainers, and
+ offer students pursuing terminal degrees in English or American Studies the background and skills needed to begin doctoral study.



The required core and elective courses include offerings in composition theory and practice, linguistics, technical writing, literature, literary theory,and creative writing.
