Each year 6 - 8 new teaching assistantships with financial stipends and benefits are awarded to Masters students with 18 graduate hours completed in the discipline. T.A.s normally teach two sections of English Composition each semester. All first-year writing courses are taught in computer labs. Teaching assistants are expected to enroll in 6 seminar hours each semester of appointment (this is to help enrich our courses with your second-year and teaching experience, as well as help you with content and methodology as you teach). |

Year Seminar Leaders |

English
graduate students can also be employed as First-year Seminar
Leaders by the University
Core Curriculum Program. First-year seminars are linked
to large lecture courses in a variety of disciplines. Leaders
help students integrate the material in the "triad" or "tetrad"
of courses they are taking, as well as develop writing and
thinking skills in the transition to college-learning. Leaders
also assist in grading duties for the large classes.
Training
for first-year seminar leaders is required during the first
summer session prior to the Fall of employment.
