How long will it take me to complete my degree?

If you take 9 credit hours each long semester, you can finish the program in two years. Many students, especially those teaching full-time in the schools, reduce their hours fall and spring, then take courses during the summer so that they still finish in the normal two years.

We encourage students who work either full- or part-time to take a maximum of 6 credit hours during a semester. Less than 1/3 of students in the program take 9 or more credits per semester.

Can I apply with a BA in an area other than English?

Yes—we have several current students who have done so. In addition, we have students enrolled in our English courses from other graduate programs in the University, including Education, History, Psychology, Computer Science, Communications, and Interdisciplinary Studies.

In addition, other graduates have advanced to Ph.D. programs at the University of Kentucky, Bowling Green State University, Arizona State University, and Texas Tech University. Another has been accepted at the University of Texas- Austin law school. Stills others are working as technical writers
